CONTACT LENS THERAPY

The Gentle Molding procedure is achieved n a unique manner. With nighttime wear of specially designed contact lenses, custom designed to gently change the shape of the cornea (te front curvature of the eye), the lenses will safely and gently improve your vision.

This new method of vision improvement is accomplished by applying a series of accelerated contact lenses that may be worn at night over a period of weeks or several months to attain better vision. Gentle Molding is safe, effective and non-surgical.

NEARSIGHTEDNESS

Myopia occurs when the curvature of the cornea is too steep and/or the length of the eye is too long. As the light rays pass through the steeper central cornea, the refraction is too great causing th rays to come to a point of focus in front of the retina. This creates blurred vision at a distance, but many see well close up. With Gentle Molding, contact lenses are worn at night to reduce the corneal curvature, which improves unaided visual acuity.

ASTIGMATISM

Many people with myopia have some degree of astigmatism. This means that their cornea, rather than being completely round in shape, may be slightly oval. People with astigmatism experience blurred vision and sometimes distortion or tilting of images. This is due to unequal bending of light rays entering their eyes.

ACCELERATED GENTLE MOLDING PROCEDURE

The reshaping of the cornea by means of corneal molding does not compromise the corneal integrity. On the other hand, refractive surgical reshaping of the cornea (LASIK) always creates permanent irreversible changes to the corneal tissue.

MAPPING YOUR CORNEA

Before Gentle Molding lenses are applied to your eyes, the curvature of the cornea is measured to get the best results. This part of the procedure of Gentle Molding is painless and done with a sophisticated, computerized instrument called a Corneal Topographer. This process is often referred to as Corneal Mapping.

HOW DOES THE GENTLE MOLDING CONTACT LENSE WORK?

The skillful design of the lenses will cause gentle molding of the central curvature of the front of the eye. In this way, better vision is achieved without removal of corneal tissue. The reshaping reduces the light refraction power of the cornea. This causes a reduction or elimination of nearsightedness and astigmatism.

The high-tech, therapeutic, Gentle Molding lenses are manufactured by using carefully constructed lathes. The lathes create the rigid, gas-permeable lens which allows oxygen into the cornea. This ensures healthy eyes while sleeping with the lenses.

Gentle Molding has been an authorized vision improvement procedure for more than 30 years. Only recently, the procedure has been accelerated to deliver vision improvement in a shorter period of time.

WHILE YOU SLEEP

As the lenses encourage corneal curvature changes at night, people retain comfort while sleeping. For most patients it requires only nightly wear. Most of the visual changes occur rapidly during the first weeks. Because of the rapid improvement in vision, there is a need for frequent examinations and progressive lens changes. Following the accelerated change to better vision, stabilization procedures follow at a slower pace over the next few months.

RETAINER LENSES

After treatment and maximum desired results have been achieved, retainer contact lenses are worn as necessary to stabilize the results. Following the more intense lens wear, al systematic reduction of wearing time occurs. Final retainers may be work either nightly, several times a week, or as little as once a week for some patients.
